How did the project start?

We started the project demoing the existing three-story deck structure. We did each floor in phases to safely remove and replace.

What were the challenges you faced?

The biggest challenge was having to demo and replace floor by floor to ensure the roof structure was still fully supported. In addition, we uncovered a rotted exterior wall during the deck demolition.

How did you tackle the challenges?

We tackled the challenge by building temporary walls on each floor as we removed and replaced posts. For the wall, we removed and replaced the rotted sheathing, replaced and painted new Hardie siding, and remedied the water intrusion issue that caused the rot.

What problem did the client want to solve with the project?

The client's home was hit by a hurricane years prior. Each home in this particular neighborhood had structural issues with their deck post hurricane. The city gave each owner a notice that their decks must be replaced due to these structural issues. 

How did you solve the problem?

We solved the problem by safely and effectively replacing their complex deck and giving it an aesthetic upgrade along with it in addition to replacing their rotted exterior wall.
