How did the project start?
This project had an easy start. The grade was flat and was a simple and straightforward deck design.
What were the challenges you faced?
The biggest challenge on this deck was deck board perfectionism. We always strive to build our decks to the perfect measurement that does not require a ripped (cut) board.
How did you tackle the challenges?
Working around both the hot tub and the porch corner forced us to be extra thoughtful about how to lay out the boards. We drew out the design in CAD to plan our layout.
What problem did the client want to solve with the project?
The client valued outdoor living more than yard space. They used their hot tub every night and wanted a relaxing environment for their nightly use.
How did you solve the problem?
We were able to create a seamless transition from the porch to the deck as well as incorporate steps into the deck design that made the hot tub feel like a part of the deck. Because they were primarily using the deck at night, we installed Trex lighting to illuminate the space.
